Wirral

Wirral Borough Council currently has no policy on the keeping of bees on allotments.

Resources

The Allotment Regeneration Initiative www.farmgarden.org.uk/ariprovides resources for sites wanting to explore the question of beekeeping:

  • BBKA leaflet on bees and allotments www.farmgarden.org.uk/ari/documents/allotment_beekeeping.pdf

  • Cambridgeshire Beekeepers' Association: Guidance on keeping bees on allotments

  • Ealing and District Beekeepers' Association: Bees on allotments

  • NSALG Bees on allotment sites by Bryn Pugh.

Local beekeeper Michael Minter gave a talk on starting beekeeping, to Transition Town West Kirby in November 2008. The talk covered how to learn about beekeeping, apiary requirements, swarm problems, equipment, costs and attending meetings. The details of this can be found at www.transitiontownwestkirby.org.uk/beekeeping.htm
